Financing and taxation

A thousand thanks and well done!

Thanks a lot / muchas gracias / danke sehr / dank u zeer / grazie mille /….

You are contributing to the sustainable development of south-west France and Europe.

You are a hummingbird: the few pennies you pay for your stay help local authorities, the State and Europe to finance the New Rail Link between Toulouse, Bordeaux and Dax. It links the South-West with Spain and Portugal and Northern Europe via Paris, as well as the Atlantic with the Mediterranean.

France is the world's leading tourist destination, and aims to become the leading destination for sustainable tourism. The New Line will improve the possibilities for long-distance, carbon-free journeys by 2032. The South-West, the land of milk and honey, will finally be more accessible and connected to the rest of Europe.

You know what we'll be doing with those few pennies*. All visitors can be proud to play their part in making the New South-Western Line a reality, which aims in particular to :

  • Protect the planet's livability by considerably reducing greenhouse gas emissions from daily and long-distance transport, by switching from road and air to carbon-free rail.
  • Improving air quality, because more electric trains mean less carbon and pollutants, which is much better for your health!
  • Preserve nature, in particular because a new train line does not waterproof the soil and because the Ligne Nouvelle means twice as many hectares renatured as disturbed...
  • Reduce traffic jams and stress, because more trains mean fewer cars and fewer lorries on the roads.
  • Save on journey times, so you can make the most of your stay, the region and its marvels, because the New Line will make it possible, for example, to travel from Paris to Toulouse in just 3 hours by train instead of 7 hours by car, or from Bordeaux to Barcelona in 3 hours 50 minutes instead of 6 hours 30 minutes by car.
  • Being able to return to visit the riches of the South-West more easily, as the New Line will allow more trains to run, at all fares.

Thanks to you, thanks to all the people who stay in this marvellous South-West of France, in Occitanie and Nouvelle-Aquitaine, we will be able to welcome you with pleasure in better access conditions. So thank you again and see you soon!

* Tourist tax is levied by accommodation providers on behalf of local authorities to fund local tourism policies. Since 1 January 2024, an additional 34 euro cents on average has been added to help finance the New South-Western Rail Link between Toulouse, Bordeaux and Dax to Spain, a €14 billion project funded by 24 local authorities in the South-West, the French government and Europe. In this way, visitors are playing their part in the collective effort to improve connections between the regions and countries of Europe.
