What does the project involve?

The GPSO project consists of four operations in its first phase:

1

The rail works north of Toulouse (AFNT), between Toulouse and Castelnau-d’Estrétefonds, were declared in the public interest by order of the prefect of Haute-Garonne on 4 January 2016 ; 19 km of new track will provide a four-track infrastructure, and the stations and stops of Castelnau d’Estrétefonds, Saint-Jory, Fenouillet/St-Alban, Lacourtensourt, Lalande-Eglise, Route de Launaguet and Toulouse-Matabiau will be redeveloped and made accessible with the creation of multimodal interchange hubs.

2

The rail works south of Bordeaux (AFSB), between Bègles and Saint- Médard-d’Eyrans, were declared in the public interest by order of the prefect of Gironde on 25 November 2015: a third track will be created over 12 km and a fourth track in line with the stops. There are plans for one station (Bègles) and three stops (Villenave d’Ornon, Cadaujac, Saint-Médard-d’Eyrans) to be redeveloped into multimodal interchange hubs and to be made accessible.

3

The New Line Toulouse-Bordeaux–Dax, 327 kilometres of new track between (i) Saint-Jory (Haute-Garonne) and South Gironde, (ii) Saint-Médard-d’Eyrans (Gironde) and South Gironde, (iii) and Saint-Vincent-de-Paul (Landes) and South Gironde, declared in the public interest by decree 2016-738 of 2 June 2016.

4

New stations and stops: three stations are planned in Mont-de-Marsan, Agen and Montauban, as well as a stop in South Gironde in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. The existing station at Dax will be served by connections between the new line and the existing line.

A second phase is planned, comprising two operations:

  • A new 91 km Dax-Spain railway line, mixed passenger/freight, connecting to the previous line and to the new Spanish Vitoria-Bilbao-San Sebastián line, known as the ‘Basque Y’, currently under construction, at the French-Spanish border at Biriatou.
  • A Sud Landes station. The existing Bayonne station will be served by connections between the new line and the existing line.
