Socio-economic assessment of the Tours-Bordeaux high-speed line: rail envy!

On 25 March in Bordeaux, the SGPSO took part in the presentation of the socio-economic report on the Tours-Bordeaux high-speed line, which entered service in 2017. If there is just one piece of information that needs to be retained, it is that it shows, in particular, the desire for rail mobility, with one simple figure: passenger numbers are well above all forecasts.

The SGPSO, on behalf of the local authorities of the South-West, the State and Europe are investing over 40 years in the New South-West Line, which will provide services for everyone & for the climate and will generate profits for over 200 years.

The partners are financing SNCFR, which is building this link that will connect Northern and Southern Europe, the Atlantic and the Mediterranean. The target date for bringing the link between Toulouse and Bordeaux on line is 2032, with links from Bordeaux and Toulouse to Dax and Spain in the immediate future (best-case scenario 2034).

These new services will increase rail traffic on all the lines in the South-West, particularly the existing lines, by freeing up slots for daily TER trains, Intercity trains and freight trains, such as the Tours-Bordeaux line.
