A very interesting first ‘Territoires & construction’ event organised by @legroupemoniteur on 5 December in Paris. The resilience of existing mobility infrastructures, and above all the robustness of the design and operation of new ones, are essential for the mobility of people and goods. All the more so in the south-west of France, where days over 40°C are commonplace and becoming increasingly so... and where the Garonne and its tributaries will suffer from regularly severe low-water levels, if not worse. The basin, which has been hit by a combination of drought and heatwaves on the one hand and higher rainfall and snowmelt on the other, will suffer even more from the shrinking and swelling of the clays.
Over and above the human aspects - travelling in temperatures of over 40°C - and the living aspects - lack of water and fire risks, insurability and even financing will also depend on the quality of the design and operation of the infrastructure and materials.
