What are the new journey times?
Toulouse and Bordeaux will be one hour, five minutes from each other by 2032 at the latest. With shorter journey times, the new line will reduce distances in the South West.
Why reduce journey times?
Travel time savings are essential for modal shift. High-speed rail competes with air travel for long distances and with car travel for medium distances. It meets society's growing expectations for low-carbon mobility with a more sustainable mode of transport.
Since its inauguration and before the closure of the air link, the Paris–Bordeaux high-speed line has become the preferred mode of public transport for long-distance journeys, accounting for 81% of journeys, compared with 17% by air and 2% by coach.
Above all, the travel time saved means that you can devote yourself to other activities as you like.
Furthermore, by train, you get to your destination without traffic jams.
